Les disconnecteurs assurent une séparation nette entre le système d´eau portable et les appareils ou les installations de conduites en aval . Ils empêchent le refoulement, la réaspiration ou le reflux indésirable d'eau contaminée ou altérée dans l'installation d'eau potable. Cette catégorie comprend les eauxqui, bien qu'inoffensives pour l'organisme humain peuvent présenterf des altérations de goût , de couleur , d´odeur ou de température .

Catégorie 3
Les liquides de cette catégorie présentent un danger pour l'homme en raison de la présence d´une ou plusieurs substances faiblement toxiques, il peut s´agir par ex. d´eau de lave-vaisselle, d´´au de réservoir de chasse ou d´eau de chauffage sans additifs.

Catégorie 4
Les liquides de catégorie 4 sont ceux qui présentent un risque important pour la santé humaine, par ex. en raison de substances toxiques radioactives, mutagènes ou cancérigènes qu´ils contiennent. Cette situation peut déjà se présenter dans le cas d´eau eau mélangée à des produits de nettoyage ou de l´eu de chauffage contenant des additifs.

La catégorie la plus élevée, regroupe les liquides susceptibles de transmettre des agents microbiens ou viraux et d´avoir des effets mortelssur l´organisme humain.
Protection efficace
Pour protéger efficacement le système d´eau potable il existe différents types de robinets, de dispositifs et d'appareils. ll s'agit par exemple de vannes KFR, à siège incliné avec clapet anti-retour intégré.

Une vanne KFR est par exemple utilisée sur le raccordement domestique, directement après le compteur d´eau, pour empêcher le reflux de l'eau de l'installation domestique vers le réseau public d'eau potable. Les disconnecteurs plus complexes pour la protection des liquides dangereux disposent d'une structure à trois chambres internes et de plusieurs vannes.
