Saubere Trennung
Systemtrenner sorgen für eine saubere Trennung zwischen Trinkwassersystem und nachgeschalteten Geräten oder Leitungsinstallationen . Sie verhindern ein unerwünschtes Rückdrücken, Rücksaugen oder Rückfließen verunreinigten oder veränderten Wassers in die Trinkwasserinstallation. Eine Eintrübung der Trinkwasserqualität oder gar eine gesundheitsschädliche Veränderung des Lebensmittels Trinkwasser werden auf diese Weise wirksam verhindert.

Ein Rückdrücken oder Rückfließen von Wasser aus angeschlossenen Geräten oder Systemen kann jederzeit und aufgrund unterschiedlicher Ursachen geschehen. Hierzu gehören beispielsweise ein plötzlicher Druckabfall innerhalb der Trinkwasserinstallation oder ein technischer Defekt an einem daran angeschlossenen Gerät.
Unter ungünstigen Umständen kann dann bereits verunreinigtes Wasser zurück in das Trinkwassernetz gelangen, wo es Wasser und Rohrleitungen verschmutzen könnte. Selbst wenn der Rückfluss aus der Hausinstallation in das öffentliche Trinkwassersystem durch geeignete Sicherheitseinrichtungen begrenzt wird, können sich vor allem in Mehrfamilienhäusern Gefahren für Bewohner ergeben, die von einer einwandfreien Qualität des Trinkwassers ausgehen.

Eine effektive Systemtrennung ist daher in zahlreichen Anwendungsfällen vorgeschrieben, etwa beim Nachfüllen der Heizung oder beim Anschluss unterschiedlichster Geräte an das Trinkwassernetz.
Flüssigkeitskategorien
Ausschlaggebend für die Auswahl eines passenden Systemtrenners ist unter anderem, gegen welche Art von rückfließendem Wasser die Trinkwasserinstallation geschützt werden soll. Es macht hierbei durchaus einen Unterschied, ob das Medium Trinkwasser durch rückfließendes Wasser lediglich hinsichtlich des Geschmacks eingetrübt wird, oder ob sich daraus Gefährdungen für die Gesundheit ergeben. Um rückfließende Flüssigkeiten und die von ihnen ausgehenden Gefahren besser einordnen zu können, werden diese daher in unterschiedliche Kategorien eingeordnet.

Kategorie 1
Als Flüssigkeit dieser Kategorie gilt Wasser direkt aus der Trinkwasserinstallation, das für den menschlichen Gebrauch geeignet ist, beispielsweise zum Trinken oder Kochen.

Kategorie 2
In diese Kategorie wird Wasser eingeordnet, das zwar für den menschlichen Organismus unbedenklich ist, jedoch Veränderungen hinsichtlich von Geschmack , Farbe , Geruch oder Temperatur aufweisen kann.

Kategorie 3
Flüssigkeiten dieser Kategorie stellen aufgrund eines oder mehrerer gering giftiger Stoffe eine Gefahr für den Menschen dar, wobei es sich beispielsweise um Geschirrspülwasser, Spülkastenwasser oder Heizungswasser ohne Zusätze handeln kann.

Kategorie 4
Als Kategorie 4 gelten Flüssigkeiten, von denen eine erhebliche Gesundheitsgefährdung für den menschlichen Organismus ausgeht, etwa durch Giftstoffe oder darin enthaltene radioaktive, erbgutverändernde oder krebserregende Substanzen. Dieser Sachverhalt kann bereits bei mit Reinigungsmitteln versetztem Wasser oder Heizungswasser mit Zusätzen erfüllt sein.

Kategorie 5
In der höchsten Kategorie werden Flüssigkeiten eingestuft, über die mikrobielle oder viruelle Erreger übertragen werden können, und die sich auf diese Weise lebensgefährlich auf den menschlichen Organismus auswirken könnten.
Effektiver Schutz
Zum effektiven Schutz des Trinkwassersystems stehen verschiedene Armaturen, Einrichtungen und Geräte zur Auswahl. Hierzu gehören zum Beispiel KFR-Ventile, die als Schrägsitzventil mit einem integrierten Rückflussverhinderer konstruiert sind.

Ein KFR-Ventil wird beispielsweise am Hausanschluss direkt hinter dem Wasserzähler eingesetzt, um ein Rückfließen von Wasser aus der Hausinstallation in das öffentliche Trinkwassernetz zu verhindern. Auch andere kontrollierbare Rückflussverhinderer unterbinden wirksam ein Rückfließen des Wassers. Sie dürfen dabei je nach Ausführung als Typ EA beispielsweise zum Absichern von nicht gesundheitsgefährdenden Flüssigkeiten bis zur Kategorie 2 eingesetzt werden.

Komplexere Systemtrenner zum Absichern gefährdender Flüssigkeiten verfügen über einen Aufbau mit drei innenliegenden Kammern und mehreren Ventilen. Hierzu gehören Systemtrenner BA und Systemtrenner CA . Jede der integrierten Druckzonen weist dabei gegenüber der in Fließrichtung vorgeschalteten Kammer einen geringeren Druck auf. Bei Druckabfall auf der Eingangsseite oder einem unzulässigen Druckanstieg in der Mittelkammer öffnet sich das dort angeordnete Entlastungsventil des Systemtrenners, und führt das anfallende Wasser ab.

Systemtrenner CA können zum Absichern von Flüssigkeiten bis zur Kategorie 3 eingesetzt werden.

Systemtrenner BA verfügen zusätzlich über Kontrollmöglichkeiten für die Vor-, Mittel- und Hinterdruckzone. Der Typ BA eignet sich zum Schutz des Trinkwassersystems vor Flüssigkeiten inklusive der Kategorie 4.
Weitere Absicherungsmöglichkeiten
Sogenannte Trennstationen kommen hingegen vor allem dann zum Einsatz, wenn die Trinkwasserinstallation vor Flüssigkeiten der Kategorie 5 geschützt werden soll. Hierbei kann es sich um Wasser handeln, das mit mikrobiellen oder viruellen Erregern verunreinigt sein könnte. Das trifft beispielsweise auf Einsatzbereiche in Arztpraxen, Laboren oder Zahnarztpraxen zu, die Nichttrinkwasseranwendungen aus dem Trinkwassernetz speisen möchten.
Um eine absolut sichere Trennung der Systeme zu gewährleisten, verfügen die Geräte über eine integrierte Pumpe und einen komplett vom Trinkwassersystem getrennten Behälter , aus dem die nachfolgende Installation gespeist wird. Als kompakte Trennstationen benötigen die Geräte dabei nur wenig Bauraum.

Füllarmaturen und Nachfüllkombinationen für die Heizung erfüllen in der Regel ebenfalls die Anforderungen zur Absicherung von Flüssigkeiten der Kategorie 3 oder Kategorie 4. Zu diesem Zweck ist eine Trenneinrichtung Typ CA oder Typ BA bereits in die Armatur integriert , ebenso wie ein Druckminderer , Absperrhähne und ein Manometer .
Um die zuverlässige Funktion von Systemtrennern jederzeit sicherstellen zu können, müssen diese in regelmäßigen Abständen überprüft werden. Die Prüfung des Systemtrenners gelingt am besten mit einem entsprechenden Prüfset . Ein solches Set enthält alle zur Funktionsprüfung von Systemtrennern benötigten Utensilien, die übersichtlich in einem Prüfkoffer angeordnet sind. Eine jährliche Prüfung des Rohrtrenners lässt sich auf diese Weise schnell und unkompliziert durchführen.
